In which book of the Bible is the story of Noah’s Ark told?

The story behind the answer

The story of Noah’s Ark is told in the Book of Genesis.

The main narrative runs through Genesis chapters 6–9. It introduces Noah, describes the corruption and violence that precede the Flood, gives instructions for building the Ark, recounts the rising and receding waters, and concludes with the covenant sign of the rainbow.

Genesis is the first book of both the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. Its name comes from the Greek word for “origin” or “beginning,” while the Hebrew title is Bereshit, meaning “In the beginning.” The Noah account belongs to Genesis’s early primeval history, before the stories of Abraham and the other patriarchs.

Other biblical books mention Noah, and later Jewish and Christian writings reflect on the Flood, but the detailed Ark narrative is in Genesis. This distinction helps avoid answers such as Exodus, which contains the story of Moses, or Deuteronomy, which presents speeches attributed to Moses.
