In which biblical book is the main story of Noah’s Ark found?

The story behind the answer

The main story of Noah’s Ark is found in Genesis. The narrative runs through Genesis chapters 6–9, beginning with the decision to send the flood and ending with Noah’s covenant after leaving the vessel.

Genesis is the first book of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. Its opening chapters describe creation, early humanity, the spread of violence, the flood, and the renewal of the world through Noah’s family. The Ark story is therefore part of Genesis’s primeval history, before the later stories of Abraham and the ancestors of Israel.

The account includes the Ark’s dimensions, the animals, the flood’s rainfall, the birds sent to search for land, Noah’s sacrifice, and the rainbow covenant. Other biblical books refer to Noah, but they do not contain the full narrative in the same way.

The name “Genesis” comes from a Greek word associated with origin or beginning. In Hebrew, the book is traditionally called Bereshit, meaning “In the beginning,” its opening phrase.
