James Marsden played Cyclops in the 2000 movie X-Men. His character is Scott Summers, the field leader of Professor Xavier’s mutant team.
X-Men was the first major feature film in the modern X-Men movie series and introduced audiences to Marsden’s version of Cyclops. In the film, Scott uses a special ruby-quartz visor to control powerful beams released from his eyes. He is also portrayed as Jean Grey’s fiancé and as a disciplined counterpoint to the more rebellious Wolverine.
A common mix-up is confusing the 2000 film with its sequels. Marsden returned as Cyclops in X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand, and later appeared briefly in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Other actors portrayed younger versions of Scott Summers in later prequel films, but Marsden’s original debut as the character was in X-Men, released in 2000.
