In what year was the Lamborghini LM002 unveiled?
Answer
1986
Answer
1986
The Lamborghini LM002 was unveiled in 1986. The production model made its public debut at the Brussels Auto Show, introducing Lamborghini’s extraordinary luxury off-road vehicle to the market.
The LM002 grew out of Lamborghini’s earlier military-oriented experiments. The Cheetah prototype appeared in 1977 with a rear-mounted Chrysler V8, followed by the LM001, which also used a rear-mounted engine. Those layouts created handling problems, so Lamborghini developed the LMA002 with the engine moved to the front.
That final configuration used a 5.2-liter V12 derived from the Countach, sending power through a five-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel drive. The result was an unusual combination of rugged off-road capability, supercar performance and luxury-car equipment. Its nickname, “Rambo Lambo,” reflected its imposing size and aggressive character.
Production continued from 1986 to 1993. Although the LM002 was not Lamborghini’s first off-road prototype, 1986 is the correct year for the unveiling of the production vehicle. The much later Urus is considered its spiritual successor.
