In what year was the first Chronicles of Narnia book published?

The story behind the answer

The first Chronicles of Narnia book was published in 1950.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe appeared in 1950 and introduced readers to the wardrobe portal, the land of Narnia, and the Pevensie children. It was the first Narnia book released, although Lewis later arranged the seven-book series in a different internal chronological order for some editions.

That distinction creates a common mix-up. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the publication starting point, while The Magician’s Nephew is set first in Narnia’s fictional history. The latter was published in 1955, five years after the opening volume.

The seven books were published between 1950 and 1956. Lewis wrote them for children, but their mythology, moral themes, humor, and narrative structure have attracted readers of many ages. The series became one of the best-known works of twentieth-century children’s fantasy.
