The first Assassin's Creed video game was released in 2007.
Developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft, the game launched for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in November 2007, followed by a Windows release in April 2008. It introduced the series' central conflict between the Assassins and Templars.
The story follows Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad during the Third Crusade, with historical locations including Masyaf, Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus. Players investigated targets and carried out assassinations while exploring large recreations of medieval cities.
A common mix-up is confusing the original game's release with Assassin's Creed II, which arrived in 2009. The franchise later expanded into novels, comics, films, and many additional games, but the 2007 title established its signature historical stealth-action formula.
