The eighth-generation Rolls-Royce Phantom was introduced in 2017.
Rolls-Royce presented the eighth-generation Phantom in July 2017, replacing the seventh-generation model that had been produced since 2003. The new car used the company’s aluminium spaceframe architecture, later shared in adapted form by other Rolls-Royce models.
The eighth-generation Phantom retained the marque’s traditional role as its largest luxury saloon, while receiving a newly developed twin-turbocharged V12 engine and a significantly updated interior. Its design deliberately evolved the familiar upright grille, long body and rear-hinged coach doors rather than abandoning those identifying features.
The Phantom VIII is sometimes confused with the 2003 Phantom, because both marked major stages in Rolls-Royce’s modern BMW-era history. The 2003 car was the seventh generation; the 2017 launch introduced the eighth. The Phantom VIII range later included both standard-wheelbase and extended-wheelbase versions.
