The Coca-Cola Company was incorporated in Georgia in 1892.
The company formed after Asa Griggs Candler acquired control of the Coca-Cola formula and brand from inventor John Stith Pemberton and his associates. Candler built a much larger business through aggressive marketing, syrup sales, and a network of independent bottlers.
This date is different from Coca-Cola’s creation in 1886. The beverage was first formulated and sold in Atlanta in 1886, while the modern company was incorporated six years later. It is also different from 1899, when the company granted its first bottling rights.
The 1892 incorporation established the corporate organization that eventually became one of the world’s largest beverage companies. Its later growth included brands such as Fanta, Sprite, Minute Maid, and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar.
