In what year was the band Guns N' Roses formed?

The story behind the answer

Guns N' Roses was formed in 1985.

The band emerged in Los Angeles when members of Hollywood Rose and L.A. Guns joined forces. The original lineup included vocalist Axl Rose, guitarist Tracii Guns, guitarist Izzy Stradlin, bassist Ole Beich, and drummer Rob Gardner.

The group was officially formed in March 1985, and its first concert followed on March 26 at the Troubadour in West Hollywood. Several early lineup changes soon shaped the classic lineup: Duff McKagan replaced Beich, Slash replaced Tracii Guns, and Steven Adler replaced Rob Gardner.

A common mix-up is confusing the band's formation year with its breakthrough years. Guns N' Roses signed with Geffen Records in 1986 and released its landmark debut album in 1987, but the band itself dates back to 1985.
