In what year was Studio Ghibli founded?
Answer
1985
Answer
1985
Studio Ghibli was founded in 1985. The Japanese animation studio was established on June 15, 1985, by directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, with producer Toshio Suzuki and financial support from publisher Tokuma Shoten.
Its creation followed the success of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, released in 1984. Although that film is often associated with Studio Ghibli, it was produced before the studio formally existed, by the animation company Topcraft.
The name Ghibli refers both to a hot desert wind and to the Caproni Ca.309 Ghibli aircraft. The studio became internationally famous through films such as My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle. A common mix-up is naming 1984, the year of Nausicaä, instead of the studio's founding year.
