In what year was Peter Jackson born?

The story behind the answer

Peter Jackson was born in 1961. His full name is Sir Peter Robert Jackson, and he was born on October 31, 1961, in Wellington, New Zealand.

Jackson grew up in the Wellington region and developed an interest in filmmaking while young. A family friend gave him a Super 8 camera, and he began making short films with friends. He left school at 16 and worked as a photo-engraver for a Wellington newspaper, saving money to buy filmmaking equipment and developing practical skills through experimentation.

Before directing The Lord of the Rings, Jackson made darkly comic and technically ambitious films including Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles, and Braindead, as well as the acclaimed drama Heavenly Creatures. His birth year is sometimes confused with nearby dates, but 1961 is firmly established. He was 40 when The Fellowship of the Ring was released in 2001.
