Michael Crichton’s novel Jurassic Park was first published in 1990.
The novel is a science-fiction thriller about a billionaire’s attempt to create a dinosaur theme park through genetic engineering. Its central scientific premise involves recovering dinosaur DNA from ancient mosquitoes preserved in amber, then filling genetic gaps with material from modern organisms.
Crichton developed the story from an earlier screenplay idea about a student who creates a dinosaur. The book became a major commercial success and introduced characters and plot details that were later changed or omitted for Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation.
The film Jurassic Park was released in 1993, three years after the novel. Crichton later wrote The Lost World, a sequel novel published in 1995, before the film sequel appeared in 1997.
