Disney’s live-action Mulan was originally scheduled to premiere in 2020, the same year in which it ultimately received its release.
The film was planned for a major theatrical launch, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused repeated changes to its release schedule. Disney first moved the date several times as cinemas closed and international distribution conditions changed.
In September 2020, Disney made the film available through Disney+ Premier Access in markets where the service and the feature were offered. It also received theatrical releases in selected territories and later became available more broadly on Disney+.
The date is sometimes confused with the film’s production period or with the 1998 animated film’s release year. The animated original arrived in 1998; the live-action adaptation belongs to 2020.
