Lea Salonga provided Mulan’s singing voice in the English version of Disney’s 1998 film.
Mulan has two English-language performers: Ming-Na Wen supplied the speaking voice, while Lea Salonga sang Mulan’s songs. This arrangement allowed the production to combine Wen’s acting performance with Salonga’s established musical-theater voice.
Salonga was already internationally known for originating the singing role of Kim in Miss Saigon and for voicing Princess Jasmine in the singing portions of Aladdin. Her Mulan performance includes “Reflection,” “Honor to Us All” and “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” in scenes where Mulan sings.
Christina Aguilera later recorded a pop version of “Reflection” associated with the film’s promotion, but she did not provide Mulan’s singing voice throughout the animated movie.
