Dickies, the American workwear and jeans brand, was founded in 1922.
The company was established as the U.S. Overall Company by C. N. Williamson and E. E. “Colonel” Dickie. It later adopted the Dickies name and became known for durable work trousers, shirts, jackets and other practical garments.
Dickies’ workwear heritage helped make its trousers popular beyond their original occupational market. Workers, skaters, musicians and streetwear fans all contributed to the brand’s broader cultural visibility. Although its best-known products are often twill work pants rather than blue jeans, Dickies remains a major name in durable casual clothing.
The 1922 founding date is different from the dates when particular Dickies garments became fashionable or when the company expanded into international markets.
