The UK television programme Dragon's Den first broadcast in 2005.
The British version premiered on BBC Two on 4 January 2005. It adapted the format in which entrepreneurs present business proposals to wealthy investors, known as Dragons, and seek investment in exchange for equity.
Dragon's Den was based on the Japanese programme Money Tigers and became part of the BBC's long-running factual-entertainment schedule. Its title uses the possessive form “Dragons'” because several investors share the den.
The programme is sometimes confused with the similarly formatted international series Shark Tank, which is the United States adaptation of the same broader format. Dragon's Den remains the British title and has continued through multiple presenting teams and changing investor line-ups.
