The British television series Dragon's Den first premiered in 2005.
The programme debuted on BBC Two on 4 January 2005, adapting a Japanese business-investment format for a British audience. Entrepreneurs enter the studio to present businesses or ideas and request money in exchange for a share of ownership.
The series became part of the BBC's factual-entertainment output and later moved between BBC Two and BBC One. Its investors are called Dragons, while the entrepreneurs are commonly described as pitchers.
The year is sometimes confused with 2004, when the BBC adaptation was being developed and promoted. The British show also predates the American version Shark Tank, which began broadcasting in 2009.
