Ark Encounter is a Christian theme park in Williamstown, Kentucky, centered on a large wooden Ark built as a representation of the vessel described in Genesis. The attraction opened to the public on July 7, 2016, and was developed by Answers in Genesis, the organization also associated with the Creation Museum in nearby Petersburg.
The attraction is not an ancient surviving artifact. It is a modern religious and educational presentation based on a particular interpretation of the biblical measurements and narrative. Its opening date therefore belongs to modern cultural history, not to the chronology of Genesis itself.
Ark Encounter is frequently discussed alongside the Creation Museum, but the two are separate attractions. The Creation Museum opened earlier, in 2007, while Ark Encounter began welcoming visitors in 2016.
