In what year did Peaky Blinders first premiere?

The story behind the answer

Peaky Blinders first premiered in 2013, with its first episode broadcast in the United Kingdom on 12 September that year. The historical crime drama was created by Steven Knight and began on BBC Two.

The series is set mainly in Birmingham in the aftermath of the First World War. It follows the Shelby family and the Peaky Blinders gang as Tommy Shelby attempts to expand their influence from local crime into gambling, business, politics, and international dealings. The setting and period atmosphere are major reasons the show is often remembered as both a gangster drama and a historical television series.

The year is sometimes confused with 2014 because Netflix began releasing the series internationally around that time, bringing it to a much wider audience. That was an important stage in the show’s global popularity, but it was not its original premiere year.

Peaky Blinders ultimately ran for six television series. Its final BBC television series aired in 2022, although the story later continued in a feature-film format.
