In what year did Nikola Tesla die?

The story behind the answer

Nikola Tesla died in 1943. He died on January 7, 1943, at the age of 86, in Room 3327 of the Hotel New Yorker in Manhattan.

Tesla had been born on July 10, 1856, in Smiljan, then part of the Austrian Empire. His work transformed electrical engineering, especially through alternating-current power systems, induction motors, high-frequency experiments, radio-related technologies, and wireless-energy research.

At the time of his death, Tesla was living largely alone and had become financially strained despite his earlier fame. He continued developing ideas and making ambitious claims late in life, but many of his projects were never completed or commercially realized.

A common mix-up is confusing Tesla's death year with the year of other milestones. He moved to the United States in 1884, demonstrated his rotating magnetic field work in the 1880s, and died decades later during World War II. His death occurred in New York, not in his birthplace in what is now Croatia.
