In what year did Mr. Bean: The Animated Series first premiere?

The story behind the answer

Mr. Bean: The Animated Series first premiered in 2002.

The animated program extended the Mr. Bean character after the original live-action television run had ended. It preserved the central idea of an adult whose literal-minded decisions and improvised solutions produce visual chaos. The cartoon format made it possible to broaden the settings, exaggerate the physical comedy, and introduce recurring animated characters while keeping Bean at the center.

Rowan Atkinson remained closely involved as Bean’s voice performer. As in the live-action series, Bean speaks very little, so expressions, gestures, sound effects, and the situations themselves carry much of the storytelling. This made the character especially adaptable for international audiences.

The 2002 premiere is separate from the release dates of the two live-action feature films. Bean was released in 1997, while Mr. Bean’s Holiday followed in 2007. Those films and the animated series are related parts of the franchise, but they are different productions.
