In what year did Konami release the first arcade version of Dance Dance Revolution?

The story behind the answer

Konami released the first arcade version of Dance Dance Revolution in 1998.

The first Dance Dance Revolution arcade game appeared in Japan in 1998 as part of Konami’s Bemani line of music games. Players stand on a dance platform and step on directional panels in time with arrows scrolling toward target markers. The game turned rhythm-game input into a physical activity and helped establish dance cabinets as a major arcade attraction.

Dance Dance Revolution was developed by Konami’s music-game division. Its cabinet combined a large screen, speakers, illuminated step panels, and a rear support bar on many versions. Song lists and difficulty ratings gave beginners an entry point while demanding precise timing and stamina from advanced players.

The series is often shortened to DDR, but that abbreviation can also refer to individual releases or the franchise as a whole. Dance Dance Revolution was not the first arcade music game, and its home versions later expanded its audience through PlayStation releases and dance pads. The original arcade debut, however, dates to 1998 in Japan.
