J.K. Rowling’s screenplay Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them first appeared in print in 2016.
The book was published by Little, Brown in 2016 as the screenplay for the film of the same name. It presents the story of Newt Scamander, a magizoologist whose visit to 1920s New York becomes complicated when magical creatures escape from his case.
The work expands the Wizarding World beyond Harry Potter and is set decades before Harry’s birth. Rowling wrote the screenplay directly rather than adapting a conventional full-length novel. The printed edition therefore uses screenplay form, with dialogue and scene directions instead of the continuous narrative style of the seven Harry Potter books.
A separate textbook-style version of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them had appeared in 2001 as a Hogwarts library book credited to Newt Scamander. The 2016 screenplay is a different publication.
