The Ford Mustang 50th Anniversary Edition was released as a 2015 model. Ford created the limited-run Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition to mark five decades of the Mustang, whose original launch took place in April 1964.
The special edition was based on the 2015 Mustang GT coupe with the Performance package. Ford built 1,964 examples, a number chosen to echo the Mustang’s 1964 debut year. Buyers could choose a manual or automatic transmission, and the cars featured distinctive styling details such as Wimbledon White or Kona Blue paint, unique 19-inch wheels, and louvered rear-quarter windows.
A common source of confusion is the calendar year. Ford unveiled the car at the 2014 New York International Auto Show, and it went on sale in September 2014. However, it was marketed and identified as a 2015 Mustang, so 2015 is the standard answer to this model-year question. The anniversary celebrations themselves took place in 2014, exactly 50 years after the original Mustang launch.
