In what year did Dragon's Den investor Peter Jones join the BBC programme's original panel?

The story behind the answer

Peter Jones joined the BBC programme’s original Dragon's Den panel in 2005.

Jones was one of the five investors selected for the first British series, which premiered on BBC Two on 4 January 2005. His membership therefore dates from the programme’s launch rather than from a later reshuffle of the Dragons.

Before and alongside his television career, Jones developed businesses in technology, telecommunications, media and consumer products. On Dragon's Den, he became known for examining the commercial potential of pitches and for remaining a consistent presence across many series.

The year is sometimes confused with the dates when other prominent Dragons joined. Deborah Meaden arrived in 2006, while several familiar investors appeared much later. Asking when Jones joined the original panel points to the premiere year of the British series, not to a separate company founding date or a later season.
