Donna Summer released the double album Bad Girls in 1979. Casablanca Records issued it on April 25, 1979, at the height of Summer’s disco-era success.
Bad Girls was Summer’s seventh studio album and became her best-selling and most acclaimed album up to that point. It reached number one on the Billboard 200 and remained there for six weeks. The album also topped the US R&B album chart for three weeks.
Its hit singles included “Hot Stuff,” “Bad Girls,” and “Dim All the Lights.” “Hot Stuff” won Summer the first Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, while the album received a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year.
The year can be confused with 1978 because much of the album was recorded from December 1978 through March 1979. It was released the following spring. Bad Girls was also Summer’s final studio album for Casablanca before she moved to David Geffen’s new Geffen Records label.
