In what year did BBC Two first broadcast the British television series Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

BBC Two first broadcast the British television series Dragon's Den in 2005.

The programme premiered on 4 January 2005, adapting the Japanese business format Money Tigers. Entrepreneurs present business proposals to a panel of wealthy investors, known as dragons, and seek investment in exchange for an ownership stake.

Dragon's Den became part of the BBC's factual-entertainment schedule and later moved from BBC Two to BBC One in 2023. The British version also inspired adaptations in other countries, including the international Dragons' Den and Shark Tank formats.

A common mix-up is the programme's Japanese origin: Money Tigers was the direct inspiration, while the series was produced for British television by BBC and related production companies. The 2005 premiere is therefore the relevant date, rather than the launch year of a later international version.
