Pokémon Pokopia takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of the Kanto region.
The game presents Kanto as a landscape abandoned by humans and made difficult for Pokémon to inhabit. Ditto awakens in this damaged world and begins restoring habitats so Pokémon can return and live safely. This setting reuses one of the franchise’s most recognizable regions while giving it a very different history and atmosphere.
The plot gradually explains that inexplicable environmental changes made the landscape hostile to life. Humanity eventually left for outer space, while Pokémon were stored in a massive computer system designed to release them if the system began to fail. The mystery of what happened is uncovered through exploration and old human records.
Pokopia’s Kanto should not be confused with the ordinary Kanto seen in Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, or Let’s Go. It is a transformed, post-apocalyptic interpretation of the region, centered on reconstruction rather than collecting badges.
