You will find the character Oda Mae Brown in the film Ghost.
Oda Mae Brown is played by Whoopi Goldberg in the 1990 romantic fantasy film. She is a fraudulent medium who unexpectedly discovers that she can genuinely hear and see ghosts, including the murdered banker Sam Wheat, played by Patrick Swayze. Sam seeks her help to protect his living partner, Molly Jensen, played by Demi Moore.
The character provides much of the film's comic energy while also driving its supernatural mystery. Oda Mae begins as a con artist running séances, but her encounters with Sam force her to accept that the afterlife is real. Her reluctant partnership with him eventually turns her from an opportunist into someone willing to risk herself for Molly's safety.
Goldberg won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the role, and the film also won Oscars for its screenplay and supporting music. A common mix-up is to identify Oda Mae as the ghost; she is alive throughout the story. Sam Wheat is the ghost, while Oda Mae is the medium who can communicate with him.
