In what film did Patrick Swayze play Johnny Castle?

The story behind the answer

Patrick Swayze played Johnny Castle in the 1987 film "Dirty Dancing." Johnny is the working-class dance instructor at Kellerman’s resort who becomes romantically involved with Frances “Baby” Houseman, played by Jennifer Grey.

The story is set during the summer of 1963 at a Catskills resort. Johnny initially partners with Penny Johnson, but Baby steps in when Penny is injured. As Baby learns the dance routines, she and Johnny grow closer while confronting the resort’s rigid class divisions and the expectations placed on them.

Swayze’s professional dance background helped make Johnny one of cinema’s most recognizable dance characters. He also co-wrote and recorded “She’s Like the Wind” for the soundtrack. The film became a surprise international hit, earning more than $214 million worldwide, and its finale features the Oscar-winning song “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.”
