In "Walk the Line," Johnny Cash’s first wife was named Vivian. Her full name was Vivian Liberto, and Ginnifer Goodwin portrays her in the 2005 biographical film.
Cash met Liberto in 1951 while he was undergoing Air Force training in San Antonio, Texas. He was then deployed to West Germany, and the couple maintained their relationship through hundreds of letters. They married in San Antonio in 1954, shortly after Cash returned from military service, and later moved to Memphis.
The film follows the breakdown of their marriage as Cash’s touring, drug and alcohol use, and relationship with June Carter increasingly strain the family. Cash and Liberto divorced in 1966. The name Vivian can be confused with June, but June Carter was Cash’s second wife, whom he married in 1968. Vivian and Cash had four daughters.
