When Link crosses into twilight-covered Hyrule, the Twilight’s influence transforms him from his Hylian form into Wolf Link. This happens early in the story after he is pulled beyond the twilight barrier while searching for the kidnapped children of Ordon Village.
Wolf Link cannot use a sword, shield, or ordinary equipment, but he gains heightened senses, allowing him to detect scents, hear spirits, and uncover hidden clues. His attacks are based on biting and pouncing, while Midna rides on his back and assists him with combat and traversal.
The transformation is not the same as the rabbit-like form Link takes in the Dark World of A Link to the Past. It is a defining feature of Twilight Princess’s parallel-world story, and Link later learns to switch between his wolf and Hylian forms after obtaining the Master Sword.
