In Tolkien’s legendarium, what are the two trees of Valinor called?
Answer
Telperion and Laurelin
Answer
Telperion and Laurelin
The two Trees of Valinor are called Telperion and Laurelin.
Telperion and Laurelin grew in Valinor, the blessed realm of the Valar. Telperion shone with a silver light, while Laurelin gave a golden light. Their cycles of radiance were used to measure time before the creation of the Sun and Moon in Tolkien’s mythology.
The Trees were destroyed when the monstrous spider Ungoliant aided Melkor, later called Morgoth, in attacking Valinor. Their last surviving light contributed to the creation of the Sun and Moon and was preserved in the Silmarils, the jewels made by Fëanor. This makes the Trees central to the mythology of the First Age.
Beren and Lúthien are legendary lovers, while Minas Tirith and Minas Morgul are cities in Middle-earth. Anárion and Isildur are brothers and founders in the history of Gondor. None of those pairs names the two divine Trees.
