In The Voice (US), the save that lets another coach steal a contestant is called The Steal.
The Steal was introduced to add another strategic layer after the blind auditions. During the battle rounds, a coach can choose a singer for their own team, while another coach may press a button to claim that eliminated contestant. The singer then chooses which coach to join.
The mechanism differs from the Block, which is used during blind auditions to prevent another coach from selecting a performer. It also differs from a regular save, because The Steal transfers a contestant to a different team rather than simply keeping them in the competition.
The Voice premiered in the United States on NBC in April 2011. Its format was adapted from the Dutch series The Voice of Holland, created by John de Mol. The show's signature blind auditions focus on vocal performance before the coaches see the singer.
