Evan Davis was the original presenter when the UK television show Dragon's Den launched.
Davis is a British economist, journalist and broadcaster. Before and during his television career, he became widely recognised for presenting business and current-affairs programmes, making him well suited to introducing entrepreneurs and explaining the financial stakes of each pitch.
On Dragon's Den, the presenter provides links between the pitches, asks clarifying questions and guides viewers through the negotiations. The Dragons, rather than the presenter, decide whether to offer money and under what terms.
The programme's presenter is sometimes confused with the investors because the presenter is also closely involved in each pitch. Davis should not be mixed up with later presenters or with the Dragons themselves. His role was especially important in establishing the show's tone during its early BBC run.
