The UK television show Dragon's Den first broadcast on BBC Two in 2005.
The British version premiered on 4 January 2005, adapting a format in which entrepreneurs present business ideas to wealthy investors, known as dragons. BBC Two became the programme's original home and carried its early series.
The show was part of the BBC's factual-entertainment and business programming. Its format combines a formal pitch with spontaneous questioning about sales, costs, ownership and growth. Entrepreneurs generally seek investment in exchange for a percentage of their company.
Viewers sometimes confuse Dragon's Den with the American adaptation Shark Tank, which is broadcast by ABC. The two programmes share the same broad format, but they are separate national productions with different investors and presenters. The British title uses the plural possessive “Dragons'” because several investors sit on the panel.
