The UK television series Dragon's Den first aired in 2005.
The programme premiered on BBC Two on 4 January 2005. It adapted the international Dragons' Den format, in which entrepreneurs present business proposals to wealthy investors and seek funding in exchange for part of their company.
The British version became one of the BBC's best-known factual entertainment programmes. Its format combines a timed pitch, questioning about the business, and negotiation over valuation and equity. A proposal can receive several offers, one offer, or no offer at all.
The UK series is sometimes confused with Shark Tank, the similarly formatted American programme. Shark Tank premiered later, in 2009, while the British Dragon's Den began in 2005. The apostrophe also varies between international versions, but the UK title is normally written Dragon's Den.
