Alan Sugar founded the electronics company Amstrad, making him the Dragon associated with that company on the UK programme Dragons' Den.
Sugar established Amstrad in 1968, with the name formed from his initials and the word trading. The company became well known for affordable consumer electronics, including hi-fi equipment, computers, satellite television hardware, and telecommunications products. Its success made Sugar one of Britain’s best-known technology entrepreneurs.
He joined Dragons' Den as an investor in the UK series in 2012, bringing a background in manufacturing, retail, and business management to the panel. His direct style became a prominent part of later episodes.
Amstrad is sometimes confused with Sugar’s football ownership or his later television role. Those are separate parts of his public career; the company fact specifically points to his founding of Amstrad.
