Five dragons sat on the investment panel in the original UK series of Dragons' Den.
The launch panel consisted of Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne, Rachel Elnaugh, Simon Woodroffe and Doug Richard. Each investor brought a different business background, giving the early series a deliberately varied panel of expertise and personalities.
The number of dragons has not always remained the same across the programme's history. Panel membership changed as investors departed and new investors joined, so later series should not automatically be used to describe the original lineup.
A common mix-up is to count only the dragons who became especially prominent in later BBC publicity. The original panel had five members, including Rachel Elnaugh, the first woman to appear among the UK show's launch investors.
