Pallet Town is located in the Kanto region in the original Pokémon games.
Kanto is the setting of Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow. The player begins in Pallet Town, visits eight Gyms, challenges the Elite Four, and explores locations such as Viridian Forest, Lavender Town, and Saffron City. Professor Oak’s laboratory is also located in Pallet Town.
The region’s name comes from Japan’s real-world Kantō region, which includes Tokyo and surrounding prefectures. Pokémon’s Kanto is not a literal map of Japan, but several locations and visual ideas draw on that geography. The game’s world is designed as a connected journey from a small hometown to the Pokémon League.
Kanto is sometimes confused with the later Johto region because Pokémon Gold and Silver allow players to revisit Kanto after completing their main adventure. That sequel connection makes Kanto unusually significant: it is both the first region introduced and a substantial post-game destination in Generation II.
