Which enhanced Game Boy Pokémon game was first released in Japan in 1998?
Answer
Pokémon Yellow
Answer
Pokémon Yellow
Pokémon Yellow was the enhanced Game Boy Pokémon game first released in Japan in 1998.
Its Japanese release date was September 12, 1998. The game revisited the world of Pokémon Red and Green while taking visual and story inspiration from the television anime. Pikachu became the player’s permanent companion and followed the player outside its Poké Ball.
Unlike the original Red and Green versions, Yellow gives players a different early sequence involving Pikachu and makes the three original starter Pokémon available during the adventure. Jessie, James, and Meowth from Team Rocket also receive a more prominent anime-inspired role.
Pokémon Yellow is sometimes confused with Pokémon Crystal, Emerald, or Platinum because those games also enhanced earlier paired versions. However, Yellow belongs to Generation I and was released for the original Game Boy family before the later generation-enhanced editions.
