In the original Assassin's Creed, what is the first name of the assassin Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad?

The story behind the answer

In the original Assassin's Creed, the assassin Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad's first name is Altaïr.

Altaïr is the playable protagonist of the 2007 game, set during the Third Crusade. His name is Arabic and is commonly translated as “the flying one” or associated with the star Altair in the Aquila constellation. The character is voiced by Philip Shahbaz in the original English version.

At the beginning of the story, Altaïr is a highly ranked Assassin whose failure during a mission causes him to lose his rank and equipment. His mentor, Al Mualim, then assigns him a series of targets as he works to restore his status. Altaïr is not Ezio Auditore, the later protagonist introduced in Assassin's Creed II, and he is not Connor Kenway from Assassin's Creed III.
