In The NeverEnding Story, what is the name of the flying luckdragon?

The story behind the answer

In The NeverEnding Story, the flying luckdragon is named Falkor.

Falkor is a large, benevolent creature who resembles a long, white, furry dragon with a doglike face. He helps Atreyu during the quest to save Fantastica and becomes one of the film’s most recognizable visual characters. His ability to fly and his optimistic personality distinguish him from the story’s more threatening creatures.

A frequent mix-up is confusing Falkor with Atreyu’s horse, Artax. Artax is the horse who accompanies Atreyu early in the story, while Falkor appears later and becomes Atreyu’s aerial companion. Gmork, by contrast, is a dangerous wolf-like servant of the Nothing.

The 1984 film was directed by Wolfgang Petersen and adapted from Michael Ende’s 1979 novel. The movie uses the first part of Ende’s story but differs from the book in several important ways, including its treatment of the ending and the visual presentation of Fantastica.
