In 'The Matrix', what is the name of the hovercraft that rescues Neo?

The story behind the answer

In The Matrix, the hovercraft that rescues Neo is the Nebuchadnezzar.

Captain Morpheus commands the Nebuchadnezzar, a rebel hovercraft operating in the devastated real world outside the Matrix. After Neo is freed from the simulated reality, the crew nurses him back to health aboard the ship and begins teaching him how the Matrix works.

The name refers to Nebuchadnezzar II, the ancient Babylonian king mentioned in the Bible. The ship’s nameplate also reads “Mark III No. 11,” a detail commonly interpreted as a biblical reference that reinforces the film’s religious imagery surrounding Neo.

The Nebuchadnezzar is not the same as Zion, which is the underground human city and the rebels’ home base. “The Neb” is an informal shortened name, while “Morpheus’s ship” identifies the vessel without giving its official name. In later films, other hovercraft—including the Logos and Hammer—also become important.
