In The Man with the Golden Gun, the spectacular AMC Hornet stunt is called the Astro Spiral.
Bond drives an AMC Hornet through a broken bridge opening and performs a complete mid-air rotation before landing on the other side. The stunt was designed as a precise vehicle jump rather than an accidental-looking crash.
The sequence became one of the film’s best-known action moments. It was filmed with a specially prepared Hornet and was carefully calculated so the car would rotate correctly while crossing the water.
A common mix-up is to call the stunt simply a barrel roll. Although the car rotates in the air, the production and contemporary descriptions identify the manoeuvre as the “Astro Spiral,” a name connected with the stunt’s planned spiral-like motion.
