In the Mahabharata, who was Draupadi’s father?

The story behind the answer

In the Mahabharata, Draupadi’s father was King Drupada of Panchala.

Drupada was a powerful ruler and an important figure in the political history leading to the Kurukshetra war. Draupadi, also called Krishnaa and Panchali, was described as emerging from a sacrificial fire along with her brother Dhrishtadyumna. Dhrishtadyumna later became a commander of the Pandava forces.

Draupadi married the five Pandava brothers after Arjuna won her svayamvara, a ceremony in which a bride chooses a husband under specified conditions. Her relationship to Drupada is sometimes obscured because epic narratives use several names for her, including Panchali, meaning a woman of Panchala. Drupada should not be confused with King Pandu, the father of the Pandavas, or Virata, the king who sheltered them during their exile.
