In the Mahabharata, who was Abhimanyu’s mother?
Answer
Subhadra
Answer
Subhadra
In the Mahabharata, Abhimanyu’s mother was Subhadra.
Subhadra was the daughter of Vasudeva and Rohini, the sister of Krishna and Balarama, and the wife of Arjuna. Her son Abhimanyu became a celebrated young warrior in the Kurukshetra War. He was especially known for entering the Chakravyuha, a complex military formation.
According to the epic tradition, Abhimanyu learned how to enter the formation while still in Subhadra’s womb, as Arjuna explained the tactic. Subhadra fell asleep before hearing the method for escaping it, leaving the lesson incomplete. Abhimanyu later entered the formation but was unable to get out.
Subhadra is sometimes confused with Draupadi, who was Arjuna’s wife but not Abhimanyu’s mother. Abhimanyu’s wife was Uttara, and their son Parikshit continued the Pandava lineage.
