In the Mahabharata, Arjuna’s son who fought on the thirteenth day of the Kurukshetra War was Abhimanyu.
Abhimanyu is the son of Arjuna and Subhadra, Krishna’s sister. He becomes famous for entering the Chakravyuha, a complex military formation arranged by the Kaurava forces. The young warrior knows how to enter the formation but, according to the epic’s most familiar account, does not know the complete method for escaping it.
Arjuna is kept away from the main action by a separate challenge, allowing the Kaurava warriors to isolate Abhimanyu. He fights fiercely before being surrounded and killed. His death becomes a major turning point in the war and intensifies Arjuna’s determination to defeat Jayadratha, who helped prevent the Pandava allies from reaching him.
Abhimanyu is sometimes confused with his son Parikshit, who survives the war and later becomes a king. Ghatotkacha is another important warrior on the Pandava side, but he is Bhima’s son, not Arjuna’s. Iravan is also linked to Arjuna, though through a different mother.
