In the lands of "Game of Thrones", what is the capital of Westeros?
Answer
King's Landing
Answer
King's Landing
In the lands of Game of Thrones, the capital of Westeros is King's Landing. It is the seat of the Iron Throne and the royal government of the Seven Kingdoms.
The city was founded after Aegon the Conqueror landed near the mouth of the Blackwater Rush roughly 300 years before the main story. His first settlement, Aegonfort, grew into King's Landing, which became the center of Targaryen rule and later the capital under Houses Baratheon and Lannister.
King's Landing stands on Blackwater Bay and is built around three hills named for Aegon and his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys. The Red Keep, the royal castle, sits on Aegon's Hill, while the city is protected by the City Watch, known as the Gold Cloaks. With an estimated population of about half a million, it is Westeros's largest city.
A common mix-up is confusing the capital with the rulers' ancestral strongholds: Winterfell is the seat of House Stark, Dragonstone is associated with the Targaryens, and Sunspear is the capital of Dorne. King's Landing remains the political heart of Westeros, even when rival armies fight to control it.
