In the Harry Potter books, Harry Potter plays Seeker for the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
The Seeker’s main task is to catch the Golden Snitch, a small winged ball whose capture ends the match and awards 150 points to that seeker’s team. Because the Snitch is worth so many points, the Seeker can determine the outcome even after a long game.
Harry first plays for Gryffindor during his first year at Hogwarts. Professor Minerva McGonagall recommends him for the team after seeing his flying ability during a first-year broom lesson. He uses a Nimbus 2000 in many early matches and later receives a Firebolt.
The other three Quidditch positions are Chaser, Keeper, and Beater. Chasers handle the Quaffle, the Keeper guards the goal hoops, and Beaters defend teammates while redirecting Bludgers.
